Bluegrass Doctors of

Physical Therapy, PLLC

What is Manual and Manipulative Therapy?

These encompass a wide array of techniques in which the manual physical therapist uses his/her hands to alleviate dysfunction and pain. Through the use of manual and manipulative therapy, we can help restore posture, break fixations at the joint level, allow soft tissue release, unwind the fascia (connective tissue within the muscles themselves), alleviate pain and restore function.

There are many common forms of manual therapy. These include: Mobilization, Myofascial Release, and Manipulation (AKA High Velocity Low Amplitude Thrust). Other manual techniques include, Strain Counter Strain, Mulligan Technique (SNAGS) Kaltenborn Technique, Maitland Mobilization techniques and Visceral manipulative Techniques.
